My Impressions of Boston…
Right so my first impressions of Boston are this…It is much quieter, cleaner, smaller, less crazier and generally less interesting when you compare it to New York, but I’m not complaining, it was good to get away and it is a very nice place but I like the crazy of New York. I reckon you could probably see all the sights in a day if you really packed it in.
So my impressions of Boston out of the way time to get on to the interesting stuff. After the 4 hour bus ride after work on Friday we arrived in Boston around about midnight. What I didn’t expect was that we were staying in the Intercontinental Hotel, which is a 5 star hotel! Rooms start from $1000 a room for the night, but we payed $200 a night! What a bargain especially going from a poor JPMorgan Chase intern to luxury. We were sharing a room with five of us in it, which is not strictly legal as the maximum per room is four but they never found out so no need to worry people! The hotel was proper swanky and worth the $40 I was forced to pay. A hostel was $30 a night so this is a proper bargain like!
Anyway on to Boston itself. Saturday morning we went for breakfast and I had blueberry pancakes. This is the first time I’ve had blueberry pancakes since moving to the US! I know, I know, how could I go so long living in the US and not eating pancakes, the mainstay of an Americans breakfast with maple syrup of course. Well I’ve done it now and it’s time to move on. The pancakes were divine by the way!
We went for a walk around Quincy Market, checked out the street performers there, went to Abercrombie then went on a duck tour. These are the tours where you go on a bus/boat combo. Half way through the ride they take you into the harbour. The tour itself was relatively interesting but there’s not a lot to be said of Boston that makes you go wow. They did go past our hotel and commented on it being 5-star! So the best part of this tour was when we went in the water, which I have put in a video below. We then spent the rest of our day walking around Boston, which was nice also!
Sunday we went to Harvard, which is another nice place. Small, clean and full of brainy people much like myself. Harvard is nice, definitely a place I would love to go but the best part was when a car company called Scion forced us to drive their car around for a bit, and if that wasn’t bad enough, they gave us $10 to spend on food and gave us loads of goodies! Pah I here you go! So my first experience of driving on the other side of the road is it was easy, except most of us were driving way to close to the right. Takes a little bit of time to remember where you are in the road! The car I drove was an ugly car but I don’t care. Check it out in the link below. Sunday night I went to a place called Dick’s Last Resort. This is a themed restaurant where the staff are mean to you on purpose. They shout at you, give you hats which say derogatory things about you on them and throw coleslaw on the tables! All in all quite an interesting restaurant. Food was quite good I had a steak but a lot of the people on my table had lobster. All this cracking open lobsters had to be my worst nightmare. Not too keen on seafood at all if you don’t know me by now but I survived and lived to tell the tale.
So I had a good time in Boston but I was glad to be back in New York. Next trip away from New York who knows? Atlantic City, Washington DC, Chicago, Bahamas??!
