The Freaks of Coney Island, the Grudge Match and Stealing Gold from the Federal Reserve…
Okay so a late post this week. Just haven’t been able to find the time to write but I am here now. So I went to a place on the coast called Coney Island, which is about an hour out of Manhattan on the subway. It’s got an alright beach, a week before I was there they were holding the annual hot dog eating competition where the record was apparently beaten with a record of 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes and it is also home to freaks and general weird people. I swear this place is like a Blackpool gone badly wrong. Everything is run down and the only apparently fun thing to do there is to see the freaks. Everything is pretty dilapidated and there are some very dangerous looking rides at the fairground. They have an array of freaks from snake woman, a woman with no head, the smallest person in the world, etc. This is all papier mache or just general weird people made to be out as freaks and I can’t see myself going back to Coney Island anytime soon but I am glad I have visited it to be able to give my first hand view of it!
Don’t do it!
Last weekend was also the return of the grudge match between the Indians and the Brits who got so badly beaten at cricket. This time round we were playing soccer, sorry football!!!! We of course chose this sport as we thought this was more our sport than theirs so we gave it a go and hey we won, 2 nil. I also scored a goal with a great bit of help from an Irishman who is like a wizard on the ball. He knows who he is! So it is 1-1 in the UK-India tournatment and I believe the next match is going to be an American sport. Should be interesting! I also got a bit of a tan as the weather for the past couple of weeks has been simply awesome!
So the only other piece of news to tell is when I visited New York’s Federal Reserve and it’s vault of gold. I went to this over my lunch break from work on Wednesday as the building is only next door. This is where cash used to get made/sorted and sent out to the banks but this isn’t done there anymore. The only thing the federal reserve does these days is hold gold, mainly of people from other countries. Apparently 98% of it is from other countries and it holds approximately $160 billion dollars of gold. Fort Knox holds most of the US’s gold. I was lucky enough to get a visit of the vault. We were allowed inside the vault but not to the point where we could touch the gold as this is behind more bars. It all looks pretty safe and nobody has ever tried to steal it. I was going to give it a go but gold is heavy and I just couldn’t be bothered this time around!!!
