Shopping in NYC, a Jolly Nice Day by the Beach and Restaurant Week…

Hey guess what, I finally got round to shopping after only 4 and a half months in NY.  Now for some of you coming to NY means only one thing, and that is shopping but I hate shopping so when I go I just want to get it out of the way quickly.  I decided I needed a couple more work shirts and some shorts as well as a case for my ipod to stop the over-priced gadget from scratching.  For the amount I payed for it I’d expect it to be indestructable but I guess that is too much to ask from a product made by Apple!  Anyway I did my shopping and I’ve gotten it out of the way and I’ve survived so happy days!  I still feel like I need some more t-shirts and maybe one or two other things but that can wait another 4 and a half months!

Sunday I went down to the beach.  It was an absoultely swelteringly, beutiful, hot hot day so the perfect time to be beside the seaside, or oceanside in this case.  We jumped on the ferry from downtown manhattan to a beach called Rockaway Beach near JFK airport.  It’s supposed to be one of the nicest beaches in NY and it was alright.  I don’t think we went to the best bit of it but relaxing by the beach was quite simply awesome!  The Atlantic has warmed up with the weather and it was great to get out of the city and relax for a bit and work myself up a bit of a tan.  Luckily no burning so once again happy days!

At the moment it is restaurant week, which actually goes on for 3 weeks believe it or not.  It is when you can go to very posh restaurants and eat 3 courses for $35.  We went to a steakhouse called AJ Maxwell’s in midtown Manhattan.  The cost of the meal actually came to $70 when you include tax, gratuity and some wine to help the steak go down.  I really can’t complain about the food.  I ate a “petite fillet mignon” but it really wasn’t that small.  It was more like a normal size steak for me.  When I looked over at the steaks that people having the full menu were eating they were absolutely huge.  How anyone can eat that and not have a coronary is beyond me.  Anyway, the steak was cooked to perfection and it felt good to dine like a king for a change.  Us poor interns are allowed to indulge ourselves from time to time surely!
