Part 1 - A Jolly Nice Day at Bronx Zoo, Britney Spears Looking Good and Roger Federer Strutting his Stuff in the US Open

Okay I know it has been a fair while since I last put up a new blog entry so this will be a little longer than normal and I will put it up in two parts over a few days.  I’ve got plenty of things coming up so I will need to keep up with my blogging so keep checking back for new entries.

Anyway, first things first I am going to talk about when I visited Bronx Zoo.  The Bronx is not an area you would particularly want to go to but there is a paradise in the middle of it known as Bronx Zoo.  It has all sorts of animals as you would expect from a zoo.  There were supposed to be storms that day but somehow the storm held out and I was luckily able to have an awesome day.  There were a few moments that will stick with me forever.  One is the butterfly exhibit.  You go into an enclosed exhibit and the room is kept cool, there are many plants and a constant spray of water within the area, but the most incredible thing was having so many different species of butterfly flying around you.  There was something very peaceful and relaxing about it seeing these butterflies flutter past you whilst you gently trod through the exhibit being careful to not trample on any of the butterflies.  It wasn’t the exhibit I was looking most forward to but it still struck me mainly because I usually like the snakes and spider exhibits best but these didn’t interest me like I’d expect!  Another exhibit was the sea lions.  I don’t know what it is about sea lions but they are very comfortable around humans.  They swim under water then when they get near you they surface and blow the water out of their noses.  The fact that they were so interested in us made it a good moment and they were probably my favourite animal of the day!  The third moment that will stick in my mind was seeing two deer fighting or at least head butting each other with their antlers.  I don’t know whether they were being friendly or what but I caught the moment on video for all to see.  The fight can be seen in my recent video compilation in case you missed it.  All in all I had a great time at the zoo.  It was the first time I had been to the zoo in a very long time and it made me remember how much I love animals.  I think I may prefer animals to humans!!!

Okay, so the next day I took the day off work.  This was Monday 24th.  I’ve needed a day off for a very long time and finally I found a day where I could relax and do nothing whilst everybody went to work.  After sleeping in till a very late 930 I woke and felt great and that was the day I did my video compilation.  I didn’t do absolutely nothing that day as I went to see Britney Spears in the evening playing at Madison Square Gardens.  I’ve never been to a major concert before.  I’ve only ever been to minor concerts where the band plays their songs and that is pretty much it.  When you go to a Britney Spears concert it is a carefully crafted production where everything is worked out to the minutest detail.  I enjoyed myself even though I’m not a crazy fan of Britney.  I do like Britney buy I just think her best years are behind her.  That said, she is looking good again and gave a great performance.  She lip synced or at least had help with the aid of an auto-tuner so the performance was even more carefully engineered.  Anyway, would I go see Britney Spears again?  Probably, but not for a few more years!

Whilst in New York one thing that only comes round once a year is the US Open.  If I had missed this opportunity I would have been an idiot.  I went on the first Wednesday of the tournament after work and I saw Roger Federer and Serena Williams play.  It was pretty awesome to see two of the world’s best tennis players strutting their stuff.  Problem is perfection can be boring and it was always unlikely that there was ever going to be an upset as both won in straight sets.  So, other than the tennis what did I think of the tournament?  Well, I enjoyed the experience of seeing a tennis match in action especially a grand slam and even more so in New York City!  It seemed very nice and was everything you’d expect of a top class tennis event.  Very pristine, clean, loads of people and just a nice happy atmosphere as people were there to enjoy themselves watch a jolly good tennis match!
